Fostering social cohesion in newly liberated areas of Galmudug, Somalia: A citizen-centered approach

Introduction

Between January 2024 and April 2024, a collaborative effort between the European Institute of Peace (EIP), Elman Peace Centre (EPC), Tubsan National Center for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE) (Tubsan), and Africa’s Voices Foundation (AVF) unfolded, marking the fifth interactive radio series of the European Union (EU) supported Strength Through Tolerance (STT) project. This series aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence in the newly liberated areas of Galmudug state in Somalia.

Engagement and Participation:

The radio series facilitated open dialogues, garnering active participation from 1,977 individuals who sent 8,404 messages across six radio stations. This engagement was notably inclusive, involving women (42.2%), youth (64.8%), internally displaced persons (46.6%), persons living with disabilities (27.4%), and minority groups (6.1%).
